✨ Tibetan Intangible Heritage Craftsmanship, Weaving Millennia of Warmth

Every Tibetan rug is a natural gift from the Northern Tibetan Plateau, crafted with the dedication of artisans. Our original Tibetan-style wool rug/cushion is made from native Tibetan sheep wool, using traditional hand-weaving techniques to infuse the colors and blessings of the snowy plateau into every corner of your home.

🌿 Key Features

  • Natural Tibetan Sheep Wool · Warm & Healing

Made from free-range Tibetan sheep wool from the Northern Tibetan Plateau, the fibers are thick, long, and naturally elastic. The thick, soft rug surface feels like a warm hug, inheriting the plateau's wisdom of moisture resistance and warmth retention.
  • Original Geometric Patterns · A New Expression of Tibetan Aesthetics

Inspired by the traditional Tibetan "Mandala" concentric pattern, the design uses rainbow gradient colors to create layered geometric motifs. It retains the auspicious symbolism of Tibetan culture while fitting modern Wabi-Sabi, Bohemian, and other diverse home styles—each piece is a unique artisanal treasure.
  • Intangible Heritage Hand-Weaving · Details That Speak Volumes

Following traditional Tibetan rug weaving techniques, each piece undergoes dozens of handcrafted processes including dyeing, knotting, and trimming. The natural fringes carry the warmth of handwork and imperfect charm that grows more beautiful with time.
  • Multi-Use Design · Versatile for Every Corner

Perfect as a living room accent rug, meditation cushion on tatami, or seat pad for bay windows and sofas, effortlessly infusing your space with the relaxed, healing vibe of Tibet.

📜 The Auspicious Meaning of Tibetan Rugs

Every thread in a Tibetan rug carries the Tibetan people's blessings for life. This concentric geometric pattern symbolizes completeness and protection. The progressive colors, like a rainbow's blessing, bring positive energy of peace and harmony to your home.

Materials

- Canvas: Made from high-quality 100% cotton canvas, it undergoes a traditional multi-step process involving soaking, sun-drying, sizing, and sanding. The canvas is durable, smooth, and fine-textured, resistant to wrinkling and tearing. It provides a stable base for hand-painting, ensures optimal adhesion of natural mineral pigments, and guarantees the long-lasting integrity of the artwork.
- Pigments: Pure natural mineral pigments, carefully selected from high-quality minerals native to and surrounding the Ronggong region (such as cinnabar, azurite, malachite, and gold leaf), plant-based materials, and natural medicinal herbs. These are processed, ground, and extracted by hand without any chemical additives. Environmentally friendly and odorless, the pigments boast rich, lustrous hues that are sun- and moisture-resistant and fade-resistant over time—a core characteristic that distinguishes Rongpo Thangkas from ordinary paintings.
- Gilding Materials: High-purity gold leaf or gold powder is used, meticulously applied by hand by master artisans. The finish is lustrous and rich, resistant to oxidation, enhancing the artistic and collectible value of the thangka while highlighting the solemnity and splendor of the composition.
- Adhesives: Natural plant-based glues (such as peach gum and tree sap) are used. These are free from chemical irritants and possess strong adhesive properties, firmly securing the pigments to the canvas without affecting their color. This ensures the Thangka remains intact and retains its color over the long term, preventing powdering or fading.

Care

- Storage Environment: Avoid placing the artwork in damp, stuffy, or sun-exposed areas (such as bathrooms or balconies with direct sunlight). It is recommended to store it indoors in a dry, well-ventilated, and cool location, with temperatures maintained between 15–25°C and relative humidity between 40%–60%, to prevent the canvas from becoming damp and moldy and the paint from peeling.
- Cleaning Instructions: If the surface is dusty, do not rinse with water, wipe with a damp cloth, or use cleaning agents. Instead, gently brush away dust with a soft-bristled brush (such as a wool brush), using light pressure to avoid scratching the surface or damaging the pigments.
- Avoid Contact: Do not touch the painting directly with your hands, as sweat and oils from your hands can contaminate the pigments, causing the colors to fade or the pigments to flake off. Avoid contact with sharp objects to prevent damage to the canvas or scratches on the pigments.
- Hanging and Storage: When hanging, choose a flat, sturdy wall and avoid placing it near heat sources such as air conditioners or radiators. When not hanging for an extended period, lay the thangka flat, wrap it securely in a clean cotton cloth, and store it in a dry storage box. Avoid folding or compressing it to prevent wrinkles in the painting and pigment loss.
- Special Care: If the thangka accidentally becomes stained, do not attempt to clean it yourself. We recommend contacting a professional Thangkas restoration artisan for treatment to avoid damaging this precious intangible cultural heritage through improper handling. Inspect the painting gently every 1–2 years; if you notice minor pigment flaking, have it professionally restored promptly.
